Abigail Asabea, Baby Thief Grabbed In Accra

The 'babynapper' with the stolen baby

A 24-year-old trader  is in custody for stealing a two-month-old baby girl. Abigail Asabea, Ghanaian lady, was said to have lured the baby’s mother from Bonfa in the Ashanti Region to Accra, where she took the baby from the mother and bolted.

Asabea had gone to Bonfa on the pretext of looking foa friend named Maa Abena, after attempts to locate the said Maa Abena had failed, Esther Leek, 24, mother of the baby, and her husband, offered to shelter the suspect in their home until she found the said friend. We never realised there were still such good samaritans left in this world, sheltering a total stranger!

After staying with the victim’s family for two weeks and unable to find the said friend, Abigail told the guardians that she wanted to travel back to Odumasi Konogo where she claimed to live.

She also told couple that before she left, she would want to take the nursing mother and the baby for shopping on Good Friday just to show her appreciation for their hospitality. When they got to Circle, around 1pm, suspect took Esther Leek to a hairdressing salon to fix her hair while she carried the baby who was then asleep. Later, when the mother had finished her hair-do and was looking for the suspect and the child, they were nowhere to be found.

She was later found by the police with the child at her place of residence, where she lives together with the husband. The baby girl has since been handed over to the parents.
