Why someone given the mantle to protect the citizens of a nation will be the same person causing harm is beyond us. A policeman in Lagos, Nigeria allegedly shot a truck driver hitting him on the left arm, while a stray bullet killed a pedestrian after he demanded a N20,000 bribe which the driver pleaded he could not afford.

A mob had gathered at this time and in an attempt to escape their wrath, he fired several shots, one of which hit Dotun Alawiye, a motor spray painter at a nearby workshop. He died instantly. He was married with four children.

We do sometimes wonder if the Police give accounts for bullets used at the end of their shifts? Or do they just go in like a gumball machine and willy nilly dip into ammunition like a jar of sweets? Such a shame. He is still at large, but we do hope the Nigerian Police smokes him out.
